Even in Wartime, “Home Stays Home”
Alei Siach Activates Emergency Plan to Maintain Residents’ Routine
With the outbreak of the war last Saturday night, it became clear that Alei Siach had prepared in advance for any scenario. As early as the beginning of the month, a detailed emergency briefing was sent to all staff and coordinators by the Housing Division Director, outlining the necessary preparations for a state of emergency.
True to these plans, the teams convened for emergency meetings as soon as the events began. Their primary mission: to maintain a sense of normalcy and stability for the residents. In a time of such uncertainty, the organization placed its focus on providing a secure environment and a consistent daily schedule.
A Full Schedule of Activities
To keep the students engaged and supported, Alei Siach launched a series of virtual programs:
* Sunday: A special Zoom session focused on coping strategies, combined with energetic physical activity to boost spirits.
* Monday: A workshop on nutrition during emergencies followed by a collaborative art class.
* Tuesday: A session on finding creative leisure activities, along with separate sports classes for boys and girls.
Unwavering Support in the Group Homes
Throughout the day, staff members remain by the residents’ sides, attending to every need, large or small. The goal is to transform these living spaces from mere apartments into true homes filled with warmth and personal care.
In addition to the daily routine, the organization released a special episode of the podcast “In Other Words,” hosted by E. Barzel. The episode features experts A. Posner and Nava Fishel, discussing how individuals with autism navigate the heightened challenges of wartime. For more complex cases, an emergency respite center was also opened with the approval of the Ministry of Welfare to provide 24/7 professional care.
Rabbi Chaim Perkal, Founder and Chairman of Alei Siach, praised the teams for their tireless dedication. “I know how difficult these days are,” he stated, “and the commitment of our staff, who stand by our residents every step of the way, is truly remarkable”.
