Rescue developmentally and physical disabled from Southern Israel

Alei Siach is a front-line organization in Israel for people with special needs around the year. We have spent the past few days helping rescue developmentally and physically disabled people threatened by the terror and violence of Hamas’ attacks.

The Down Syndrome, handicapped, and other special needs people cannot flee easily, and it is extremely difficult for them to find transportation to safer areas and temporary safer housing.

We have:

•       Secured safe transportation for those fleeing terrorists.

•       Opened our housing facilities for them to have a safe place to live during the war.

•       Made our health support staff available to them on a daily basis as well as provided an emergency hotline with mental health support for them and their parents.

•       Been providing games and activity packages appropriate for the special needs population, so far at more than 150 homes, to help distract them during these difficult days. 

For the special needs individuals served by Alei Siach, their families cannot host them under normal circumstances. Now, it is totally impossible amid air raid sirens and missiles, terrorists invading towns, and family members called up for war duty.

Anxiety is rising. Fear is mounting. Their schools and workplaces are shuttered right now. They need more programming to help calm and distract them from the realities of war. They need more support from social workers and therapists. They need to have increased staff and supervision than usual.
